Favorite Bible character… Joseph
Life verse… Psalms
199:11 "Your Word is a lamp for my
feet and a light for my path."
I’m happiest when… I'm
hanging out with Charlotte and when
I'm worshiping.
My iPod top-five… Take 6,
Stephen Curtis Chapman, Glad,
Philips Craig and Dean, Christmas Music
Favorite Book (besides the
Bible)… Jimmy or The List by
Robert Whitlow
Proudest moment… Holding
any of my children for the first
time.
If I could, I’d… Have a
year to spend traveling to
different places in the US in one of those really nice RV things. (with
Charlotte of course)
My perfect day would be…
Hanging out with Charlotte with no
agenda or time schedule.
My favorite
childhood memory… First
time I saw over a foot of snow when we visited friends in Ohio and I got
to sled for what seemed like hours on a hill that seemd like a
mountain. (Charlotte says I have to say that I have not read her
answers before putting mine, I guess she talked about the snow too.)
In my free time, I… It's been
so long I don't remember
My favorite TV show is…
Dick Van Dyke Show, Stargate, Star Trek
Three people I would love to
share a meal with… Heidi
Baker, Bill Johnson, Charlotte said an astronaut person, but I got to
have lunch with Dr. Kathy Sullivan once (she's the first woman to walk
in space)... third person would be any Air Force One pilot.
If I was given $1000 of ‘fun’
money, I would… Take
Charlotte on a hot air balloon trip, she says that doesn't sound like
fun.
Nicest complement I ever got was… My dad commented on my
craftmanship in the house my family has been building.
Best ‘clunker’ I ever
owned… A
lot to choose from ,but best one was my first car, a 1973 Austin
Marina I inherited
from my sister because it was too unreliable for a young single
girl. I thought it was cool because it had an MGB engine, but it
did not have the cool MGB convertible sports car body -- it looked more
like a Pinto. It did not
have reverse, so I had to park it so I could always pull forward, or
push it out of the parking space and then drive away. It also
smoked bad enough my
best friend's father made the statement, "I never have to add oil to my
car as
long as I follow you around." I've never seen another Austin
Marina since. My dad and I eventually rebuilt the engine and
transmission and it was a pretty nice car until I wrecked it.
My favorite vacation location… Sedona, Arizona. So far,
only spent an afternoon there but am
determined to go back for a longer visit
Charlotte
Favorite Bible character…Seriously? Was that singular? Wow…I
find myself relating to so many different Bible characters—different
ones, at different times, and for different reasons—that many of
them feel like old friends. But, I guess I’ll choose Daniel—I
love that he guarded his heart so vehemently against defilement and
compromise. I am always challenged by the part of his life story
where—despite the law against it—he prayed, not in secret, but as
he always had, with his windows wide open. I want a pure, bold heart
like his.
Life verse…I don’t think I have one—or just
one…more like a lot of verses that have carried me through various
chapters of life. But okay…let’s see…there are a few that seem
to resurface over and over…and so I’ll chose from one of those. In
ministry and as a mother of four, my heart has always been to, not
just make right choices or decisions, but to make wise ones. So, I think
I’ll say the promise from James 1:5… “But if any
of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously
and without reproach, and it will be given to him.”
I’m happiest when…I’m with my
family—any or all of
them.
my iPod top-five list…Keep
saying I’m gonna get me
one—maybe for my birthday or Christmas this year. If I had one
all loaded up, my top plays would probably include: Casting Crowns,
Chris Tomlin, some old school Sawyer Brown and Dan
Fogelberg…and…ohhh…What to choose? What to choose? Maybe
Kutless’ Strong Tower album.
Favorite Book (besides the Bible)…uhhh…I’m a reader…and there is
that pesky singular in the set-up again. I could fill an entire page
with books that I absolutely love. But okay, I think maybe as close
as I’m gonna get on this one is to give you my favorite fiction
writer—Robert Whitlow.
Proudest moment…Well, of
course, there is my wedding
day and the days each of my 4 children were born…but when, as it
talks about in Proverbs 31:28, those children and that husband rise
up and call you blessed or speak praise over you, it really is even
better. I am so blessed and humbled to have a family that esteems me
well and I am hard pressed to mention just one of the many moments
they have honored me with their words and deeds. But, without
diminishing any of the other moments…I once found out that one of
my children’s professors asked the class what one person they
admired most in the world. When he called on my son, his answer was,
‘my mom’. Still makes my eyes well up with tears to think about
that today.
If I could, I’d…be a size 8
My perfect day would be…(Surprise,
surprise…) spent with my
family—just hanging out, playing games, and enjoying one another.
My favorite childhood memory…Wow…lots of those too. But,
certainly way up there…was one of the Christmases we spent at my
grandma’s in Kentucky. I grew up in Houston, Texas so when we had
an honest to goodness white Christmas—complete with 4 or 5 inches
of snow, sledding, snow angles, and building an entire snow
family—plus the popcorn and hot chocolate in front of the gas
stove, when we came in for the evening, with, (no lie,) “White
Christmas” playing on grandma’s black and white television (my
brother loved getting to listen to my sister and I sing the “Sisters”
song all the way back home)—it certainly qualified as a wonderful
memory maker.
In my free time, I…I’m
sorry…’free time’? Could
someone pass me the lexicon please…Just kidding…I guess we do have an
occasional bout of ‘free time’…during which you’d likely find
me reading, sewing, playing cards or games with some of my family, or
perhaps veggin’ in front of an old movie.
My favorite TV show is…Well…we haven’t had television in
over 5 years now…anything we watch is via DVD. But, we do have
lots of TV on DVD and nothing touches the classics—Lucy, Dick Van
Dyke, Cosby, Andy Griffith… Drum roll please…and the winner of
the Charlotte’s choice award is…The Dick Van Dyke Show.
Three people I would love to
share a
meal with…Okay, I guess we’re
going for people
I haven’t actually shared a meal with here…so…I guess I’d
say, any three of these four--Beth Moore, Bill Johnson, Robert
Whitlow, and Heidi Baker.
If I was given $1000 of ‘fun’
money, I would…Take a trip to
with Allen to someplace
we’ve never been but keep saying we’d like to go—maybe Montana. He’s
playing this game too…so if we combined our money, we could
probably get that far.
Nicest complement—I’ve gotten some very nice ones over
the years…but one that I am especially fond of came back in the day
when I was a pretty wicked softball player. At one of our church
picnics, I and a couple of other gals, were allowed to round out the
teams when the men were getting up a game. I was having an
especially ‘on’ day, and overheard one of the newer men at our
church comment to the pastor, “That girl can play ball! …She’s
got one arm like a vacuum cleaner and the other like a cannon.” Nice!
(I wonder if I’ll get my arm back when we get our glorified
bodies.)
Best ‘clunker’ I’ve ever owned…We had a old black pick-up for awhile
that Allen and the boys were going to fix up—had a lot
of…potential. But, while waiting to see its potential realized…its
‘potential’ slowly dwindled into oblivion. The bed continued to
rust through…a BB gun shattered the back window…can’t remember
what broke the front windshield—but it completely shattered and
fell out… And yet, as we were clearing our property for where our
home now sits, that truck was a priceless commodity for hauling
brush, tossing logs into, and entertaining the kids when their
attention span for work had expired (they loved driving it around the
property with the windshield wipers flapping even though there was no
windshield for them to wipe.) Of course, we did have to keep a can
of carburetor cleaner in the front seat that we could use under the
hood any time we wanted to start her…and we did have to share the
cab with a couple of field mice that had claimed it as their home…
but she kept right on truckin’ (pun intended) during those 5 or 6
months of being our work horse.
favorite vacation location…I’ll
take the mountains any day.
